Outstanding! I have been 5 times now, getting better each time. The service is very quick and the food is even better. A brilliant mix of excellent japanese cuisine with a fast paced, modern twist. Offering a range of foods from the exciting to the more simple, it would please anyone. With an extensive cocktail and wine list, also, anyone looking for a good night out is in for a treat. Decor couldn't be better. Downstairs is a pleasant japanese style, quite laid back, and upstairs is beautiful, mirrored and modern looking. With private booths and dangleing decorations, it's not just a tounge pleaser, but also extremly aesthetically pleasing. 10/10 for zen!
“You’d be hard pushed to find a better restaurant in the whole of Belfast”, says one of the fans of this large and “swish” Japanese – you certainly “need to book”. read more
The restaurant building itself is very nice.
Customer service was great, waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and made suggestions on what to order as we had not been to a Japanese restaurant before.
Very shocked at the price when the bill came. Will not be back for a long time because of this.
The Duck and Mango main is my fave dish there but I'd advise making sure you are hungry if you try it as its very rich and filling. Portion sizes for mains are very generous and have never disappointed me (been 4 times in 18 months). Starters are also fantastic - sushi is top class as are the tempura prawns, but it's the Dragon Tail ribs that really excel.
Service is usually pretty good though at busy times possibly does slack a little, but never enough to annoy. Music and general atmosphere have been cool any time I have been in . I'd recommend checking out the cocktails if your food is taking a while to arrive.
Decor inside is astoundingly good - possibly the most interesting in Belfast - check out upstairs and you will see what I mean!
All in all, Zen is definitely a great restaurant and well worth checking out. Its not cheap though!
My bald, heaving arse is more Japanese than this place.
